Villa Retirement Lodge members in Midland have secured a new two-year agreement awarded through the Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act (HLDAA) decision dated December 7, 2022.

Members will receive general wage increases of 2% – May 29, 2021 and 3% -May 29, 2022 retroactive to current and former employees. The members were happy that the date of the award ensured they would receive their retroactive payments prior to Christmas. The first step of the grid has also been removed from the contract.

Other language improvements include:

  • Sick leave increases from 22.5 hours to 37.5 hours per year.
  • Vision care allowance increases from $165 to $185 every 24 months.
  • Bereavement leave to include celebrations of life.
  • Sunset clause has been reduced and suspensions will be removed from a workers record after 18 months down from 24 months.
