Islamic School of Hamilton ratifies significant wage increases and language improvements for education workers with new collective agreement.
The Muslim Association of Hamilton membership working at the Islamic School of Hamilton ratified a three-year agreement on December 10, 2025.
This round of bargaining resulted in the introduction of a seniority grid which created significant wage increases in Year 1. With these increases the new rates range from $35,000-$38,000 which is approximately 16.67% to 26.67% for non-certified teachers. For certified teachers, the increase ranges from $38,000-41,000 or approximately 15.15% to 24.25%. In years 2 and 3 there will be lump sum payments of $500.
Language improvements include that going forward, extra activities and events outside of working hours will be voluntary, and only one event per year can be mandated. If an event is mandated, the teacher will be paid for their time. Additionally, the vice-principal may only evaluate teachers with less than one year of seniority; all other teachers can only be evaluated by the principal.
