CSINW ratifies wage increases, new shift premium and improvements to language and benefits with new collective agreement.
Community Services for Independence North West (CSINW) in Thunder Bay ratified a four-year agreement on December 16, 2025.
The members will receive increases in each year of the contract as follows:
- Year 1 – 3%.
- Year 2 – 3%.
- Year 3 – 3%,.
- Year 4 – 2.75%.
We also negotiated a new midnight premium of 50 cents per hour.
The qualifier for part-time sick days will be reduced from 1250 to 1040 hours, the unused days will be paid out at 90% and workers can accumulate up to 24 hours. This win is a significant achievement for the membership.
The part-time pay in lieu of benefits will increase from 4% to 5%.
We were able to secure new vacation entitlement language and as such full-time workers with 25 years of service will be eligible for six weeks at 12%, and part-time workers with 15 years of service will receive 9% vacation pay.
Part time workers will now be permitted to bank 20 hours to a maximum of 80 for use at a later date.
Bereavement leave for immediate family will increase from four to five days.
Letters of understanding were negotiated to reduce the full-time and part-time weekend commitments to 12.5% from 25%; an important win for the members.
Union negotiating committee: Brittany Abrunzo, Melissa Allaby, Jenny Chalifoux, Dagmara Croft, Michelle Franklin, and Michele Raison. Region 1 Director: Tracy Stubbs.
