HOPE Sector members at Breakaway Community Services ratifies and welcome new members to the bargaining unit
The new agreement for members at Breakaway Community Services in Toronto now recognizes and welcomes part-time and project funding employees to the bargaining unit.
Wages for members will increase across-the-board by 2% in each of the three years covered by the collective agreement term. First-year increases will be paid retroactively for hours worked since the expiry of the previous agreement.
Staff who are members of the Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) community may access a one-time $1,500 allotment for professional development.
A new pension plan – CAAT – will benefit members in their retirement planning, and will see employee contributions of 3% alongside employer contributions of 3.4% of an employee’s gross salary. Staff that currently receive an RRSP contribution percentage higher than 3.4% will receive the remaining percentage towards a CAAT Growth Account (RRSP).
Further monetary improvements provide increased mileage reimbursement of $0.60 per kilometre, up from $0.58. Meal allowances improve to $15 for breakfast, $20 for lunch, and $30 for dinner, up from $10, $15, and $20 respectively.
Negotiated language improvements that were important to the members address seniority and job posting, layoff and recall, Union leave, working from home, and more. In addition, members may now carry over up to 35 hours of lieu time, and a renewed Letter of Understanding applies a 1% pay equity adjustment to wages.
Union Negotiating Committee: Melody Alderton-Ballik, Mella Brown, Ruthie Titus, Union Representative Kasiobi Nwankudu and Regional Director Sabrina Qadir.
