Adonis Workers Vote in Favour of Joining UFCW Local 175
Adonis Mississauga workers have overwhelmingly voted in favour of union representation with UFCW Local 175. This victory brings 175 new members into the Local Union family. Grocery workers are a critical component of our economy and our communities. The clerks, bakers, butchers, cooks, cashiers, and department heads at Adonis – and at every grocery store in neighbourhoods across the country – keep these stores running smoothly while serving customers with a smile.

Adonis Mississauga workers have overwhelmingly voted in favour of union representation with UFCW Local 175. This victory brings 175 new members into the Local Union family.
Grocery workers are a critical component of our economy and our communities. The clerks, bakers, butchers, cooks, cashiers, and department heads at Adonis – and at every grocery store in neighbourhoods across the country – keep these stores running smoothly while serving customers with a smile.
Despite their critical role, it’s common to see non-unionized grocery and retail workers dealing with issues such as:
- Unfair wages
- Precarious Job Security
- A Lack of Benefits
- Health & Safety Concerns
- No pension
In the case of Adonis, workers were driven to organize in the pursuit of fair treatment, stable working hours, and a clear line of communication between members and management. By joining UFCW Local 175, the workers at Adonis can work together to build a collective agreement that fosters a workplace culture focused on health and safety, respect, and stability.
“This victory was the result of a tight knit group of persistent workers who decided that they needed a real voice at work,” said President Kelly Tosato. “As members of UFCW Local 175, they can now collectively negotiate for fair wages, benefits, and the stable scheduling they deserve. I am proud to welcome the workers of Adonis to the Union and I am excited to see what they will accomplish at the bargaining table.”
Representing more than 42,000 retail and grocery workers across Ontario, UFCW Local 175 has the industry knowledge and experience, and expert staff to support our new Adonis members at the bargaining table and in the workplace.
While wages and benefits were not the primary driving force for these workers, this victory is a united call for respect and dignity in the form of health & safety, equality, and a professional working environment. With this victory, we hope our new members feel liberated, empowered, and excited to take the next step toward building a better life with their union.
