Ball Packaging ratifies new agreement with sought after language improvements

The members at Ball Packaging in Whitby ratified a three-year agreement on April 13, 2022, after a long and difficult set of bargaining.

Wage increases are as follows: Year 1 – 4%, Year 2 – 3.25% and Year 3 – 3.25%. There will be a $1.00 training premium and the student wage will increase by $.50.

Pension improvements include RRSP matching by the employer of 50% to a max of $1000 up from $900 and GRRSP contributions from the employer of Year 1 – $1750 and Year 2 – $1800. The addition of CCWIPP language will allow members to enter the plan at the appropriate time.

Other language improvements include:

  • STD (sickness and accidental) up from $650 to $700 DOR, 2022 – $725 and 2023 – $75.
  • Major medical from $100,000 to $125,000.
  • Life insurance from $65,000 to $70,000.
  • Increased vision coverage from $250.00 to $275.00 DOR and Dec 1, 2023 increased to $300.00.
  • Dental contribution to increase $0.01/hour at the discretion of the trustees.
  • Additional floater day.
  • Increased boot allowance to $250.00.
  • Increased severance to 3 weeks up to 42 weeks maximum.
  • Additional language regarding promotions and postings.
  • Retesting language that allows people to retest after 3 years.
