St. Matthew’s House members ratify
July 27, 2026
In this round of bargaining for UFCW Local 175 members at St. Matthew’s House in Hamilton, a number of improvements were secured.
The Union Negotiating Committee achieved improved language that protects our members by ensuring that management has to remain in the building until at least 3:00 p.m. unless extenuating circumstances exist. In addition, employees will be paid for staff meetings that fall outside of their working hours instead of receiving lieu time. Bereavement language also improves to allow one entitlement day to be saved for delayed interment or celebration of life.
Wages for our members at St. Matthew’s House improve by a total of 6% over the term of the agreement, which includes an immediate increase of 3%. Plus, a letter of understanding ensures that provincial wage enhancements will continue to be added on top of the negotiated general wage increases.
Health and welfare benefits improve to provide a $1,000 Healthcare Spending Account for each member. Vision care coverage increases to $450 every 24 months (or 12 months for those under 18). Basic dental reimbursement now covers 100% of costs, and paramedical improves to a combined maximum of $1,500 per year per claimant.
Members benefit from an additional float day, and the employer will increase its contributions to the UFCW Local 175 Training & Education Fund by $200 per year.
