Metro Barry’s Bay First Collective Agreement ratified

Metro Barry’s Bay First Collective Agreement ratified. Members will now benefit from all the protections, rights and privileges of a collective agreement.

The new members at Metro Barry’s Bay have unanimously ratified their first collective agreement with a four-year term on June 26, 2024.

Full-time workers hired prior to November 12, 2023 who are at or above the newly negotiated wage grids will receive increases of:  Date of Ratification – $1.00, July 1, 2025 – $0.80, July 1, 2026, – $0.75, and July 1, 2027 – $0.75. Full-time employees on the grid or who are part-time promoted to full-time will move onto the Minimum Wage plus grid where they see an increase to their current rate of pay.

Full-time workers, who are not at or above end rates, will integrate on to the new Minimum Wage plus grid and progress through the grid every six months until they reach the end rate.

Part-time workers will have a Minimum Wage plus grid and will reach end rates at 5,201 hours.

There will be a new premium of 50 cents for lead hand, U-scan supervisor, courtesy/express cash and office/cash office increasing on January 1, 2027 to 75 cents. There will be two new classifications and wage grids for receivers and assistant department managers.

The workers will now benefit from being enrolled in the Canadian Commercial Workers Industry Pension Plan (CCWIPP).

A new employer funded health and dental benefit for both full-time and part-time will be introduced.

Other improvements workers will now benefit from are:

  • Paid sick leave: effective January 1, 2025 full-time 40 hours increasing to 48 hours January 1, 2027. Effective January 1, 2025 part-time will receive eight hours, increasing January 1, 2026 to 16 hours and January 1, 2027 to 24 hours.
  • Full-time and part-time safety boot allowance of $150.00 paid annually for full-time and bi-annual for part-time. There will be the option to split and take payment every six months for full-time or every 12 months for part-time.
  • Annual paid floater day for both full-time and part-time.
  • New vacation entitlement schedule based on years of service and an annual vacation request calendar.
  • New Letter of Understanding for a floater day for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Employees hired prior to November 12, 2023 will maintain their original hire date. Two full-time employees working 44 hours per week, prior to November 12th, 2023, will continue at 44 hours with a two-week rotating schedule of Tuesday and Saturday off provided the employer can maintain sufficient staffing.
  • Part-time hired prior to November 12th, 2023, working more than 28 hours will be legacied for additional hours provided those employees have the availability and the employer has the hours.
