Caressant Care Retirement members in Listowel ratify good wage increases and more
Healthcare members working at the Caressant Care Retirement Home in Listowel have ratified a new collective agreement that will see them through the next three years.
The members, who belong to the UFCW Local 175 Health, Office, and Professional Employees (HOPE) Sector, secured a number of important gains after meeting in bargaining and in conciliation with the employer.
In the ratified deal, members secured general wage increases of 3.5% in year one, 3.25% in year two, and 3% in year three. In addition, the premium paid to members for weekend shifts will increase, and a new premium of $1 per hour will now be paid to a Guest Attendant, as outlined in the agreement, who performs Med-pass. This is a big gain for members in this classification, as previously this premium was only paid for time spent administering the medication.
Members will also benefit from improved scheduling language, increased employer contributions to the dental fund, an additional day for bereavement leave, and an increase to the uniform allowance. Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) will also see an improvement to their certificate reimbursement.
The ratified collective agreement at Caressant Care Retirement in Listowel covers 15 full-time and five part-time employees at the home.
Union Negotiating Committee: Cathy Gregory, Vicki McIntosh, and Union Representative Todd Janes.
