Livita Barrington Retirement achieves new contract through HLDAA
In a decision dated June 2, 2025, Local 175 HOPE Sector members at the Livita Barrington Retirement Home in Barrie secured a two-year collective agreement awarded through the Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act (HLDAA).
The award secures general wage increases of: January 1, 2024 – 3.5%, then a special wage adjustment of $0.37/hour, and January 1, 2025 – 3.5% general wage increase. Increases are retroactive and applicable to former and current employees.
Effective June 2, 2025 premium increases of: Evening from $0.20 to $0.30/hour, Nights from $0.30 to $0.35/hour, Weekend from $0.20 to $0.30/hour, and UCP from $0.50 to $1.00/hour.
Overtime will be paid after 75 hours within a biweekly period, previously was paid after 80 hours.
As of December 1, 2025 the wage grid will be expanded to include the classifications: Basic Aide, PSW/Maintenance, and Cook. This was a sought-after accomplishment that the Union has been trying to achieve since our first contract. In addition to putting money in members’ pockets through adjustments, this will benefit us in future rounds of bargaining.
Union negotiating committee: Rosanna Terpstra and Susan Roach. Union representative: Derek Jokhu.
