Home Building Centre ratifies wage increases and language improvements with new collective agreement.
Home Building Centre in Thunder Bay ratified a three-year agreement on February 7, 2025.
This deal secures wage increase in each year of the term of: Year 1 – 5%, Year 2 – 4% and Year 3 – 4%. In addition, minimum wage gap language was negotiated to maintain the increases for end rate and over scale employees, should minimum wage increase.
Language improvements include:
- Increase retirement payment for those with 30 years of service from 1 week to 2 weeks.
- Increase meal per diems by $5.00 per meal.
- Employees who have achieved eight years of service will receive a premium of 50 cents per hour and employees who have achieved 12 years of service will receive a premium of 1.00 per hour.
- Increase bereavement leave from 4 to 5 days.
- The uniform allowance will increase for pants from $22.00 to $35.00 per pair.
- The annual shoe allowance increases by $20.00 to be $150.00 for employees in the store and $220.00 for employees who work in the yard.
- Current full-time employees will not be required to work on Sundays should the employer decide to start operating on Sundays.
