GDI members in Oshawa ratify

GDI members in Oshawa ratify yearly wage increases and numerous language improvements and gains with new collective agreement.
The members employed by GDI at the Oshawa Town Centre in Whitby ratified a three-year agreement on August 8, 2025.
This deal secures wage increases each year for $3.00/hour over the term of the contract. Minimum wage protection language was also negotiated so that wages will maintain a minimum of 50 cents per hour over minimum wage. The night shift premium increased to 25 cents.
The contract also provides language improvements and gains of:
- Employees who have completed their probation will receive one personal day per contract year.
- Workers with one year of service will receive an additional sick day per year for a total of 7 days.
- The sunset clause is reduced to 10 months from 12 months.
- The uniform allowance increases from three to five sets.
- Employees with 30 years or more service will receive an additional week of vacation per year and an additional 2% in vacation pay.
- The safety footwear allowance will increase to $125.00, and those who require anti-slip will increase to receive $85.00 per year.
- Bereavement language will now include Aunt and Uncle.
- Coverage of eye glasses/contact lenses for part-time increases from $200 every three years to $250 every two years.
