Friendly Manor ratifies wage increases and improvements to vacation and shift premium language for healthcare workers.

The HOPE Sector members at Friendly Manor Nursing Home in Deseronto ratified a new collective agreement on April 2, 2025 with a two-year term.

The deal secures general wage increases of 7% over the contract plus a special wage adjustment for RPNs of $1.00 per hour in both years of the contract before the general wage increase is applied.

Language improvements include:

  • Any part-time member who takes on a temporary position will receive full-time benefits after six months.
  • The requirement to work rotating shifts in order to receive the shift premiums is eliminated. This language will now provide a 25-cent premium to anyone working evenings or nights, whereas previously only a few people qualified.
  • When an employee is called in for in-service meetings, they now have option to stay and get paid for three hours.
  • Shift giveaways are now permitted on Fridays of up to six per year.
  • Vacation language changes provide for members to maximize the number of weekends off in a year. This was a priority issue for the membership that we could only achieve in a freely negotiated deal as this could not be achieved through the HLDAA process.
