Freshco Brock ratifies increases to wages and premiums, improved sick days and a floater holiday with new collective agreement.

The members in Whitby at Freshco Brock & Gilbert unanimously ratified a five-year agreement on August 1, 2024.

Members will receive wage increases for full-time of: Year 1 – $1.00, Year 2 – $0.75, Year 3 – $0.75, Year 4 – $0.75, and Year 5 – $0.80, and part-time increases: Year 1 – $0.70, Year 2 – $0.50, Year 3 – $0.45, Year 4 – $0.40, and Year 5 – $0.35.

Language improvements include:

  • The amount paid for an employee who is called back to check refrigeration or heating will increase from $25 to $45.  
  • The premiums will increase for an employee who relieves a department manager and for an employee who is designated to be in charge of the store in the absence of the store manager.  
  • The vision care allowance will increase from $200 to $250 every 24 months.
  • There will be the introduction of a footwear allowance of $150 per year for employees required to wear protective footwear.
  • Sick days will increase from 7 to 8 and new language will provide for unused days to be paid out at the end of the year.
  • NEW: a floater day will be added.   
  • Improved bereavement leave language.
  • The sunset clause will be reduced from 18 months to 15 months.
