Delmanor Wynford ratifies first agreement securing wage increases, shift premiums and language to give these healthcare workers a voice in their workplace.

The new HOPE sector members working at Delmanor Wynford Retirement Home in Toronto have unanimously ratified their first collective agreement with a two-year term.

This deal secures a 3.5% lump sum payment in the first year for all employees. In year two, there will be a 3% lump sum paid to members whose wages are red-circled. All other members are part of a wage grid and will receive increases amounting from 2.2% to 14%.

We were successful in maintaining the RRSP that has a 4% employer match, and the health and welfare benefit plan that is employer paid at 100% for full-time and 50% for part-time.

Language gains include:

  • A fourth week of vacation entitlement was achieved.
  • There will be new premiums of fifteen cents for nights and weekends.

This first agreement brings these workers all the benefits of unionization and will address their reasons for seeking union representation of harassment, hours of work and lack of respect with language to protect their rights at work.

Union negotiating committee: Maria Baang and Natalie Shaw. Union representative: Todd Janes.
