Compass Group Sienna Senior Living unanimously ratifies

Compass Group Sienna Senior Living unanimously ratifies increased wages, paid sick days and numerous language improvements with new collective agreement.
The members employed by Compass Group Ltd. working at Sienna Senior Living Homes: Maple Grove, Langstaff and Norfinch unanimously ratified a three-year agreement on June 25 and 26, 2024.
Members will receive wage increases of:
- Dietary Aide: Year 1 – 8.04%, Year 2 – 2.8% and Year 3 – 2.72%.
- Cooks Wages: Year 1 – 3.2%, Year 2 – 2.5% and Year 3 – 2.4%.
Minimum wage protection language was also negotiated to ensure a gap of not less than $1.00 is always maintained. The cook premium will increase from $1.00 to $2.00/hour.
There will be an increase in the full and part-time RRSP contribution rate from 1% to 2% and the employer will match. The benefit cost share will also increase to 80% employer paid.
Other improvements include:
- Increase to Vision Care Allowance from $250 to $300 every 24 months.
- Physiotherapy coverage increases from $200 to $300 per calendar year.
- There will be $300 for Chiropractic coverage per calendar year.
- There will be an additional sick day for full-time workers for a total of 7 sick days per year.
- Introduction of paid sick days for part-time workers of 4 days in a calendar year.
- The cost of coverage for a doctor’s note increases from $20 to $50.
- Vacation entitlement improvement: 20 years or more of service will be entitled to 6 weeks of vacation at 12%.
- Shoe allowance increases from $50 to $100 per year.
- Bereavement Day entitlement increases from 3 to 5 days. Grandchild and legal guardian will be added to the list of eligible family members.
- The sunset clause will be reduced from 18 to 16 months.
- The probation period will be reduced from 75 days to 45 days.
- New: the company will supply some menstrual products in the first aid kit for emergency use.
- The waiting period for float days will be reduced to one year from five years of service, and the request period will be reduced from one month to two weeks.
- Family Day will be added to the list of paid holidays.
