Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture ratifies wage increases; language gains and achieves an amplified voice in the workplace with a labour management committee.

Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture (CCVT) in Toronto unanimously ratified a three-year agreement on May 14, 2025. The HOPE Community Sector workers will receive wages increases of 5% over the term of the deal.

Members will receive an additional paid mental health day for a total of four, and an additional paid personal day increasing from one to two. There will also be two stat holidays added and will now include Remembrance Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Other language improvements and gains include:

  • New – Doctors note reimbursement of $25.00.
  • Bereavement additional day for family members that would previously be one day leave is now two.  
  • New – Vacation entitlement of eight weeks at 20 years of service paid at 16% of previous year gross earnings.
  • Mileage payments increased from $0.40/km to $0.60/km.
  • Increase in the time limits to file grievances from five to seven working days.
  • Copies of documentation taken by the employer in grievance meetings will be shared with member(s).
  • The time limit for filing to proceed to arbitration will increase from 10 to 20 business days. 
  • A Labour Management Committee will be established for the members to have more of a voice and input with their work for the community.
  • An extension of 30 working days up from 5 days for training/orientation of new positions.
  • Union Stewards will be notified of all appointments of hiring, lay-offs, transfers, recalls and terminations.
