The retail grocery members at Westfort Foods in Thunder Bay have ratified a new collective agreement.

Members will see wage increases totalling $3.00 per hour – for both full and part-time employees – over the term of the collective agreement.

Other monetary improvements include an increase to the amount the employer will match for employees making RRSP contributions. In addition, the health spending account for members improves to $800, up from $600, for full-time, and to $500, up from $300, for part-time. Sick pay also improves.

Members will benefit from an improved safety shoe allowance of $175, up from $150, as well as improved optical coverage of $500, up from $450.

The Union Negotiating Committee successfully bargained improved vacation as well. Now, members will be eligible for five week’s paid vacation after 15 years, instead of the previous 16 years. Bereavement entitlement now includes aunts and uncles under two-days’ paid leave.

Union Negotiating Committee: Vivian Dunning, Rayden Scott, Union Representative Lynn Swiderski, and Regional Director Tracy Stubbs.
