Millwood Manor members secure raises and more in recent interest arbitration award
September 8, 2026
Too often in the health care sector, members are forced to utilize the Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act (HLDAA) when their employer refuses to budge on important issues. HLDAA is used in the healthcare sector when parties cannot reach an agreement and the workers are unable to take strike action because they are considered essential.
For the membership at Millwood Manor, the employer was adamant about having a two-year agreement with no wage increases while simultaneously removing important Minimum Wage Plus (MW+) language which protects the members’ rates.
The Union Negotiating Committee pivoted and took the agreement to HLDAA. And while that process came with delays, the members at Millwood Manor were finally awarded their two-year deal which includes wage increases of 3.5% in each year, which will be paid fully retroactive for hours worked during the respective years.
In addition, the decision maintains the members’ language for MW+, which ensures that rates never fall below increases to the provincial minimum wage.
Members at Millwood Manor will also benefit from additional paid sick leave of two more days for full-time, and an additional ½ day accrued every six months for part-time.
