Rexall members ratify province-wide collective agreement

More than 3,100 members of UFCW Local 175 at Rexall stores across the province have secured a new three-year collective agreement.
In addition to Minimum Wage Plus (MW+) language for most job classifications, Rexall members at the top step of the wage grid for all classifications will see increases of 3% effective the date of ratification, 3% in year two, and another 3% in year three. Members will also benefit from a signing bonus of between $500 and $750 for full-time and $250-$500 for part-time.
Full-time employees on the Classic and Enhanced plans will see coverage for their vision care and eye exams improve. Part-time employees hired after April 3, 2011, who have five years of continuous service, benefit from an improved Optical Plan providing $300 in coverage and $75 for eye exams, every 24 months.
A new drug plan will apply for eligible part-time Rexall employees with five years of service or more and who worked 600 hundred hours in the previous calendar year.
Part-time paid sick leave improves to:
- 16 hours, up from 12, per year for those with 3 months to one year of service;
- 24 hours, up from 20, per year for those with 1-5 years of service, and;
- 32 hours, up from 28, for those with more than five years of service.
An improved Home Healthcare protective footwear allowance increases to $150, up from $75, every 12 months, for eligible full and part-time employees. The Home Healthcare tool allowance for Technicians increases to $300 per year, up from $150. A new footwear allowance provides up to $150 per year for full and part-time employees classified as Pharmacy Assistant IV who are compounding.
Other improvements for eligible full-time members at Rexall include a 2nd personal holiday for those with five years of continuous service and a 7th week of vacation at 14% pay for those with 30+ years. Eligible part-time employees with 30+ years of continuous service see their vacation pay improve to 14% as well.

The agreement also contains enhanced language for the scheduling of part-time hours of work, and for posting and filling of seven full-time positions.
