Remembrance Services ratifies significant wage increases and language to curtail harassment from non-bargaining unit members with new contract.

Members at Remembrance Services Inc. in Mississauga unanimously ratified a three-year agreement on November 28, 2024. This deal secures wage increases of 16% over the term of the agreement with the year one increase of 6% retroactive to date of expiry. There will be a new premium introduced for all hours worked for receptions of $2.00/hour.

Bereavement leave improves to include five days for parent- in-law, step-sibling, grandparents and grandchildren, and three days leave to include aunt, uncle and great-grandparents. New language will provide one day off with pay to attend funeral for any family member not listed.

The employer contribution to the Training and Education Fund will increase from 3 cents to 5 cents for straight time hours worked by all employees.

New – Letter of Understanding will be added to address behavior concerns of individuals in the Pre-Need Funeral Arranger position towards members. The language in the agreement will assist in deterring harassment and abusive behaviors from management level personnel and non-union members, and there will be a more transparent investigation process by employer.

Union negotiating committee: Ivan P. Oliveras and Thomas Sherratt. Union representative: Meemee Seto.
