Metro Island Park ratifies wage increases and improvements to language with new collective agreement.

Metro Island Park retail grocery workers in Ottawa unanimously ratified a four-year agreement on January 28, 2025.

This deal secures wage increases for full and part-time workers at end rate of: Date of Ratification- $1.00, Year 2 – $0.90, Year 3 – $0.80, Year 4 – $0.80. The full-time wage scale now reflects MW+ throughout the grid achieving MW+ $3.00 by the end of the term for full-time clerks.

The part-time wage grid hours will reduce from 6,501+ to 5,201+ to reach end rate, and workers will achieve MW+ $2.25 by the end of the term.

The premium will increase to $1.10/hour for night shift and employees scheduled after 9:00 p.m.

Language improvements include:

  • Full-time vision care benefit increased to $300.00 every 24 months.
  • Grandchild now included in immediate family and eligible for five days paid bereavement leave.
  • Safety boot allowance increased to $150.00 yearly for full-time and every two years for part-time with the option to take $75.00 annually.
  • Full-time will be entitled to one in every four weekends off; previously it was one in five.
  • New – there will be a letter of understanding re: The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
