John Howard Society ratifies wage increases and additional paid holidays with new collective agreement.

HOPE Sector members at the John Howard Society of Waterloo-Wellington in Cambridge ratified a three-year agreement on October 23, 2024.

During this round of negotiations, in June 2024, an interest arbitration award was issued due to the repeal of Bill 124. As a result, all wage rates increased 7.5%, effective March 31, 2024.

This deal secures general wage increases for members in Year 1 – 1% (retroactive to April 1, 2024), Year 2 – 3% and Year 3 – 4%.

Language improvements include:

  • The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Remembrance Day will be added to the list of paid holidays.
  • There will be an additional discretionary day added.
  • Mileage increases to 60 cents per kilometre.
  • Stewards can now meet with members during work time to discuss concerns.
  • Members no longer have to find their own coverage to use vacation time.
  • Personal leave requests will not be unreasonably denied.
  • The timeframe to use lieu days has been extended.
  • There will be a New Letter of Understanding – Re: Alternate Saturday schedule.

Union negotiating committee: Mark Breaton, Jessica Lynch and Burns MacLeod. Union representative: Sacha Edey.
