Jared’s YIG ratifies

Jared’s YIG ratifies wage increases, language improvements and a benefit plan for part-time workers with new collective agreement.
The retail grocery workers at Jared’s Your Independent Grocer in Waterloo unanimously ratified a five-year agreement on August 27, 2025.
The end rates for full-time members will increase by $4.50/hour over the term of the contract, and part-time end rates will increase to Minimum Wage+ $1.00 effective date of ratification.
All part-time at end rate at date of ratification will receive a signing bonus of $500.00. Part-time in progression will receive a signing bonus of $400.00, and students at the end rate will receive a signing bonus of $300.00.
New part-time benefits will be introduced effective January 1, 2026 for workers with more than six months service and 520 hours worked.
All part-time employees with three years service or more will receive a one-time payment towards an employer sponsored RRSP in the amount of $100.00. This amount will be paid on a weekly basis.
Other language improvements include:
- Increased boot allowance from $75 to $100 every two years for part-time.
- Increased uniform allowance for part-time from one to two yearly of which one will be short sleeves; a win for the membership.
- Improved bereavement leave for part-time from one day for immediate family to up to three days.
- Language will be introduced to allow students a leave of absence to attend school and return without loss of service; a priority issue for the membership.
- The employer will pay the bargaining committee wages for negotiations.
- Language will be introduced to provide employees the ability to exchange their shifts.
