The 90 members of the UFCW Local 175 Health, Office, and Professional Employees (HOPE) Sector who work at Caressant Care Nursing Home in Harriston have ratified a new three-year collective agreement.

In addition to monetary increases, the Union Negotiating Committee secured a number of language improvements the members were eager to achieve. This includes a reduction in the sunset clause, improvements to lieu days language, and improved vacation that allows for single days to be taken in the summer. Plus, members will now see overtime assigned by seniority instead of the previous practice of rotating staff.

Members at Caressant will see general wage increases of 3.5% in year one, 3.25% in year two, and 3% in year three. In addition, the Union Negotiating Committee achieved increases to premiums for Evenings, Nights, and Weekends.

Further improvements will see increases to the mileage and monthly uniform allowances. Full-time Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) will also have their registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario covered fully by the employer. Members will also benefit from improved bereavement leave language.
