Grocery workers at Davy’s YIG ratify

Grocery workers at Davy’s YIG ratify improving wages, contract language and achieve benefits for part-time employees.

The retail grocery workers at Davy’s Your Independent Grocer in New Liskeard unanimously ratified a five-year agreement on July 23, 2025.

Full time members at end rate will receive a wage increase of $1.50/hour at ratification and an additional $3.00/hour over the term. The deal also secures wage increases for part-time clerks at end rate on ratification of $1.00/hour and then an additional $2.20/hour over the span of the contract. Part-time meat cutters at end rate have a new end rate of Minimum Wage+ $1.80.  All full-time members will receive a signing bonus of $500, part-time and students will receive $75.00.  

The employer sponsored RRSP will increase by 5 cents to 15 cents per hour worked for all full-time employees who are enrolled.

A benefit plan was achieved for part-time employees. Single coverage will be paid by the employee at 20% and dependent coverage at 50%. The full-time benefits will move to a package with enhanced coverage.

Language improvements include:

  • Boot allowance for all employees will increase to $120.00, up from $100.00.
  • Bereavement leave will increase to five days from three for immediate family.
  • The employer will make a one-time contribution of $150.00 to the Training and Education Fund.
  • Time limits are extended for stage one grievance language to seven calendar days up from five days.
