With this first Union Collective Agreement under their belt, the members at Canna Cabana Uptown Waterloo now benefit from the many protections that come with being a part of the UFCW Local 175 family.

Their agreement contains a formal grievance procedure and language surrounding just cause protection, job postings, and more. It also lays out hours of work, seniority rights, and guaranteed annual wage increases, too.

Members in both full and part-time positions will see rate increases between 2.5% and 3.75%, depending on years of service, effective as of ratification. Then, in year two, members will see a 2% increase, followed by another 2% increase in year three. In addition, members will receive a signing bonus of $400 for full-time and $200 for part-time. Other monetary improvements provide an enhanced night shift premium of $1 per hour.

The Union Negotiating Committee successfully maintained all existing benefits for full-time employees, for which the premiums continued to be 100% employer-paid.

New provisions in this first collective agreement at Canna Cabana Uptown Waterloo include the following:

  • Paid Bereavement Entitlement of up to four days.
  • Four paid sick days.
  • Remembrance Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation recognized as paid statutory holidays.
  • An additional floater day as of ratification, and a second floater day added in January 2029.
  • Contributions from the employer to the UFCW Local 175 Training & Education Fund in the amount of $0.03 per hour worked.

Members will also benefit from new language establishing overtime pay after 40 hours per week instead of the previous 44 hours required. Plus, members with 10 years of service or more are now entitled to four weeks’ paid vacation per year.

Union Negotiating Committee: Troy Blacker Roach, Mitch Isfanescu, Union Servicing Representatives Liam Aikens-Armbruster, Julie Jodoin, and Sharon Jones, and Regional Director Derek Jokhu.
