October 1, 2024
Cavendish Farms ratifies significant wages and eliminates two tier wage grid with new collective agreement.
The membership in Leamington working at Cavendish Farms, ratified a six-year agreement on September 7, 2024.
Wages for the members in Tier 1 will increase: Year 1 – 8%, Year 2 – 3.5%, Year 3 – 3%, and for Tier 2: Year 1 – 14%, Year 2 – 7%, and Year 3 – 6%. At the end of the third year, the second tier will be eliminated from the grid and the increases for all workers will be: Year 4 – 3%, Year 5 – 3% and Year 6 – Lump sum of $250.00. There will be signing bonuses of $1000 for Tier 1 and $500 for Tier 2 following ratification.
Members will receive increases to premiums, and Sanitation workers will move up one level on the wage grid.
In benefit improvements the employer dental contributions for tier 1 employees will increase 2 cents per hour and they will have the option to stay on the same plan or move to the flex care plan.
For Tier 2 employees the employer credit for single coverage will increase from $622 to $1100 and family coverage from $1743 to $2900. This increase is a huge win for workers as it will almost eliminate the employee payment portion.
If an employee is asked to remain home pending an investigation, the employer will pay the employee their regularly scheduled hours, providing the employee fully participates in the investigation and are available to be present when requested to do so. A significant achievement and one-of-a-kind language gain for these workers.
