Carriage House ratifies wage and premium increases with language improvements in new collective agreement.
The Carriage House Retirement Residence in Oshawa ratified a two-year agreement on April 16, 2025, avoiding the need for an imposed award from the Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act.
The members will receive wage increases of 3.5% in year one (2023) for all classifications. There will also be wage adjustments October 1, 2024 to the starting wages for Maintenance – $0.66, Server – $1.15, Housekeeping – $0.45, and Dining Room Coordinator – $0.46.
For year two dated December 11, 2024 there will be a 3.5% increase for all classifications. There will also be an additional wage adjustment for the servers at date of ratification of: Start Rate – $18.20, Year 1 – $19.00, and Year 2 – $20.00. All wages will be retroactive to the date of expiry and paid within three pay periods.
Minimum wage language was negotiated to ensure if an increase to the Ontario minimum wage occurs during the term of the agreement, the start rate in the wage grid(s) will be increased accordingly so that the start rate will maintain 20 cents above minimum wage, and subsequent increases will be applied to that classification grid accordingly.
Language improvements include:
- Vision Care allowance will be increased by an additional $50.00 to $350.00 for both full and part-time employees.
- There will be an increase to all shift premiums by five cents.
- The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will be recognized as a paid holiday.
- Employees with UCP qualifications will receive a premium of $2.00 per hour for work performed in this capacity.
