Members working at Big Wax car wash in Toronto ratified a new three-year collective agreement on December 22, 2020.

The agreement contains a number of improvements that were important to the membership at Big Wax in this round of bargaining.

The Union Negotiating Committee achieved new pandemic language that includes bonus pay and important provisions regarding personal protective equipment (PPE).

Wages improve by 25 cents per hour across the board in each of the three years in the agreement term. The first increase is retroactive for hours worked since April 22, 2020. Further new language addresses minimum wage and pay equity as well.

Members at Big Wax also benefit from increases to their safety boot allowance, $150 up from $100, and vision care coverage of $300, up from $200.

The company will now pay 100% of the lost wages for negotiating committee members as well as the costs of rooms used in negotiations. In addition, the company will now contribute $750 to the Local 175 Training & Education Fund.

Union Negotiating Committee: Chivonn Indriliunas and Union Rep Meemee Seto.
