Automatic Welding ratifies wage increases and improvements to language with new collective agreement.

The membership at Automatic Welding in Ayr ratified a three-year agreement on August 26, 2025.

 The wages for members will increase $3.00/hour over the term of the contract. Hourly rates for labourers will increase to $37.00, Parts pickup to $38.65, and Accredited Mechanic, Welder, Machinist, Millwright & Hydraulics will now be $39.90.

Language improvements and gains include:

  • Corrective lens coverage increases to $850.00, and Contact Lens to $400.00.
  • Work boot allowance increases to $250.00 yearly.
  • The Health and Safety Committee will consist of a minimum of two employees.
  • Bereavement leave will now include common law spouse, step child, and grandchild for five days entitlement. An employee who has to travel outside of the province for travel associated with the funeral, may be granted upon request, five additional unpaid days.
  • Jobs will now be posted for five days up from three days.
  • Notice of 36 hours will be given for weekend overtime, and shifts will not exceed four hours.
  • Weekend shifts will first be on a volunteer basis. If there are not enough volunteers, the shift(s) will be filled by reverse seniority to the employee(s) who have the necessary skills and qualifications.
  • The $1250.00 lump sum UFCW charity payment and the yearly $500 contribution to the Training and Education Fund were both renewed.
  • Letter of Understanding re: time lines was also renewed.
