Direct Coil ratifies

Direct Coil ratifies yearly wage increases, improvements and gains to contract language with new deal.
The industrial manufacturing workers at Direct Coil Inc. in Kingston ratified a four-year agreement on October 20, 2025 after a difficult round of negotiations.
Wages for the members will increase each year as follows: Year 1 – $2.35 per hour retroactive to April 6, 2025. In Years 2, 3 and 4 the increase will be 3% each year or the rate of inflation, whichever is greater. These increases are for all classifications.
Header Brazers will be paid Level D rate once they qualify to perform Large Coil Brazer functions. The Afternoon Shift Premium will increase to 75 cents per hour, and the Training Premium will increase to $1.00 per hour.
The employer contributions to the pension plan will increase to 75 cents per hour to an annual maximum of $1,500.00 to employees that match the same contribution.
Language improvements and gains include:
- A 4th week of vacation entitlement will be added at a rate of 8% for those with 10 years of service. Workers also have the option of taking a pay out for the 4th week.
- The safety boot allowance will increase to $150.00 per year or $300.00 every 2 years, up from $100 yearly or $200 every 2 years.
- Employees working more than two hours of daily overtime will be entitled to an additional paid 15-minute break.
- Bereavement leave for Parent, and Parent-in-law will increase to three paid days (up from two) and Common Law Spouse’s Parents will be added to the language.
- The sunset clause for all disciplines will be 24 months.
- The employer must issue discipline within three days of when an occurrence takes place.
