WHSC Health & Safety honour awarded to Kim Hunter!

UFCW Local 175 Member Kim Hunter wins WHSC Health & Safety Activist AwardAt a dinner held on Monday, November 27, 2017, Local 175 Executive Board Vice-President Kim Hunter won a Health & Safety award from the Workers’ Health & Safety Centre (WHSC).

The Local Union surprised Kim with the nomination and award.

“Kim is an incredible role model for how to be active in the Union,” explained Region 3 Director, Daniel Mercier. “She inspires others to get involved. What an amazing champion for workers’ rights in the store and in the larger community.”

Kim Hunter is a Local 175 Executive Board Vice-President from Loblaws 1035 in Nepean. In her role as a Steward and Health & Safety Committee member, she represents more than 270 co-workers on a daily basis. Also, Kim instructs on a regular basis for the Local Union as well.

As part of the Executive Board, Kim sits on the Local Union’s Political Action Committee. She is very proactive and engaged within her store and at events. She even helped lobby the government to make changes to our Health & Safety laws.

Kim represents the Local on the Ottawa & District Labour Council. Often, the Council approaches her for assistance on a number of matters. In addition, Kim has done some work for the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB).
