Welcome to workers at Heritage River Retirement
March 4, 2019
Sixty health care workers at the Heritage River Retirement Residence in Elora are now part of UFCW Local 175.
Several workplace issues led the employees at Heritage River to reach out to our Union for representation; this included frequently working short. Working short means that there are not enough staff to appropriately deal with the number of patients and their care at a given time.
Some members had previous experience with Unionized workplaces and wanted to enjoy similar benefits of having a Union contract. This included achieving wages on par with other workers in the industry and having job security. Other concerns included establishing seniority for all staff, achieving benefits, and bettering other working conditions as well.
The members at Heritage River work throughout the residence as RPNs, PSWs, Dietary Aides, Housekeepers, Unregistered Care Providers, and Receptionists.
We welcome these new members to the Health, Office, & Professional Employee (HOPE) sector of UFCW Local 175! Congratulations on your certification win to join the Union.
There are lots of reasons that workers in the Healthcare Industry join a Union! Learn more here about why Health Care Workers Benefit from Belonging to a Union.
