UFCW 175 Union Members celebrate Toronto PrideDespite a rainy weekend, activists filled the streets for the 2018 Toronto Pride festival weekend.

UFCW Locals 175 & 633 members and staff took part in the Toronto Pride Street Fair on Saturday and Sunday. Then, on Sunday, they proudly carried what turned out to be super handy Pride umbrellas down the parade route.

The Local Union has been a part of Pride festivities for a number of years now including Toronto, Hamilton, and Ottawa. Equality and dignity are core principles of the Labour movement. It’s encouraging to see more and more Unions joining this important cause every year. We stand proudly in support of the LGBTTIQQ2SA community in their fight for justice.

What does LGBTTIQQ2SA stand for?

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Intersexual, Queer, Questioning, 2S (Two-Spirited) and Asexual.

This year marked the 38th annual parade for the city. The celebration regularly brings more than one million people to the downtown core. This year’s UFCW Canada Street Fair booth featured trivia questions and a lot of take-aways for passers-by too!
