Travelodge Windsor members ratify 1st agreement with UFCW Local 175
June 27, 2017
Twenty-two employees at the Windsor Riverside Hotel (Travelodge) ratified their first collective agreement as Members of UFCW Local 175 on June 12, 2017.
These members joined Local 175 last September and were eager to review the agreement their negotiating committee had reached with the employer.
The agreement provides wage increases of 3% effective immediately for all employees, plus another 3% on January 1, 2018 and 3% on July 1, 2018. All employees with more than one year of service with the employer receive a signing bonus of $2,000. Those employees with less than one year of service receive a signing bonus of $1,000.
A group RRSP has been set up to which the employer contributes 22 cents per hour worked, up to 40 hours per week, for those employees participating. Bereavement leave now extends to part-time as well as full-time, and provides up to five days leave. The safety shoe allowance increases to $75 per year, up from $50, for Maintenance Department employees.
Significant language improvements provide schedule postings by Monday at 4 p.m. each week. The grievance and servicing language has been clarified and there will be Labour/Management meetings every other month going forward. Additional improvements provide better probation language, a new Breakfast Attendant classification, and earlier start times for Housekeepers on Saturdays and Sundays.
Union Negotiating Committee: Lisa Handyside, Danielle Laprade, Patricia Schwabl, and Union Rep Brenda Simmons.
