It takes courage to form a Union in your workplace, but UFCW Locals 175 & 633 Organizers are here to make the process easier. Our Organizers will walk you through the steps and work with you to get cards signed by your co-workers. They will be with you throughout the campaign right up to the secret ballot vote held by the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB). To learn more about the Organizing process and read about workers celebrating their victories, visit our Organizing page here: https://ufcw175.com/join-the-union/
Our Organizers respect confidentiality throughout the process.
As a Union member you will pay a small amount in Union Membership Fees on a regular basis. The current formula for weekly fees at UFCW Locals 175 & 633 is:
Multiply your hourly rate by .6, then add 25 cents.
So, for example, if you make $14 per hour, your fee would be calculated as:
14.00 x .6 + 0.25 = 8.65 per week
When a Unionized employer hires you, there is usually a one-time enrollment fee. At UFCW Locals 175 & 633 that amount is $25 for part-time, and $40 for full-time. If you are part-time, the $25 is usually broken down over several paycheques.
And remember, the Membership Fees you pay to the Union are tax deductible.

Today’s working world is changing. Don’t get left behind.
Many people don’t know they have rights in the workplace or they are scared about losing their jobs if they speak up. But, you DO have rights.
Belonging to a Union has never been more important. Workers are facing new and fast-paced changes to the job market. Bringing a Union into the workplace lets workers take charge of their working life and work toward the future they deserve.
Workers have become more disposable to employers, and often more decentralized too. It makes it easier for companies to divide and conquer their workforce. Some workers have never met their boss – like experiences shared with our Union recently by Uber drivers – and they get the run-around about who they need to speak to about concerns – like many Amazon delivery drivers our Organizers have spoken too. Instead of being easily able to take charge, it’s actually very difficult for these independent contractors, even when they work for the same employer, to meet each other, talk to each other, and find out that their concerns and worries are shared.
Precarious work like this can lead to a number of health and safety concerns like overwork and fatigue or unreliable schedules and income.
Many of Ontario’s workers are getting left behind by today’s changing employment models and labour laws that don’t protect them because they weren’t written with this world in mind. From defining who is actually considered an employee to a stunted minimum wage that doesn’t keep pace with what it really costs to live in most communities... someone needs to be looking out for working people. It’s time to take charge.
That’s where our Union has your back. UFCW Locals 175 & 633 represents 70,000 working people across Ontario. Our Union wants to bring workers together, to stand united, and fight for the better lives they deserve.
Take charge of your future. Join the Union.
