Sudbury Bearskin Airlines members ratify

Members of UFCW Local 175 employed Bearskin Airlines in Sudbury ratified a new agreement recently.
Included in the contract are wage increases totalling $1.27 per hour over the term of the deal. The first increase of 37 cents per hour is retroactive for hours worked since May 15. All employees, whether full or part-time, are now on the same wage scale. In addition, the premium paid for training increases to $1.50 per hour, up from 50 cents. Other monetary improvements include a new shoe allowance of $50 per year.
Bereavement entitlement now provides leave for more family members than previously. A new vision care benefit provides $50 toward an eye exam, and $250 toward eye glasses, every 24 months. The employee’s benefits now allow the option of adding life insurance, critical illness coverage, and long-term disability.
New language ensures employees receive uninterrupted meal periods. The contract now recognizes Family Day as a statutory holiday as well.
Lastly, the employer will pay up to $100 toward printing collective agreements for the Members.
