On August 19, Susan Pritchard, a Union Steward and Bookkeeper at Food Basics on Highland Road West in Kitchener, organized a charity golf tournament.

The day saw 46 golfers take to the links in memory of Chris Vandett. Chris was the grocery manager at the store, who passed away from a seizure at the young age of 35.

Chris loved to golf. Susan took the opportunity to hold a tournament at the Merry-Hill Golf Club in Breslau to honour his memory. The tournament raised $600 for the Epilepsy Foundation. Friends came from as far as Ottawa to take part in the tournament.

Susan often looked out for Chris, as did many other employees. “He was someone special to me,” said Susan. “His passing was a great loss for all of his co-workers at the store.”

Food Basics’ employees signed and framed a t-shirt in memory of Chris. And a friend donated a plaque, which has been placed at Rockwood Gardens.
