This past weekend, 168 Union Stewards took part in an educational conference in London.

Courses at the seminar included:

  • Organizing,
  • Health & Safety,
  • Invisible Hazards,
  • Enlighten Empower & Engage,
  • Essentials of Compensation & Accommodation Law,
  • Preparing for Arbitration, and;
  • Stewards Training.

This year’s agenda included guest speaker NDP MPP Peggy Sattler (London-West) and a welcome from Director Sharon Kempf and Executive Assistant Jim McLean. The conference also saw a number of Stewards who were attending for the first time, including members from the former UFCW Local 459 who merged with Local 175 recently.

Over the course of the two days, Stewards raised an amazing $5,530 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through the purchase of draw prize and 50/50 tickets. Prize winners included Rob Ingratta (50/50), Karen Baueruchber (Blue Jays’ tickets), Ginny Parkhouse (TV), Carolyn Martin (Tablet), and John Aszalos (Blue Jays’ tickets).

Thank you to all the Stewards for their participation in their courses and for being so generous in our fundraising efforts.
