William Thrasher

William Thrasher

William Thrasher (known to most as Thrasher) works at JBS Foods in Belleville as a Millwright Apprentice Level 3 in the maintenance department. He has been with the employer for more than 10 years and says he enjoys that the job always has new challenges and that he constantly learns new things.

Thrasher became a steward to help his co-workers and says the best part of the role is being able to get people results when they come to him with their concerns. The most challenging part about being a Steward? Educating management.

He believes being part of a Union is important because the rights of the workers are protected and they have better wages and hours of work. “I like knowing that there is someone there to protect me when the company tries to abuse their power.”

William is also on the Health and Safety committee and has been an active Union member through the negotiating committee, labour management meetings, and committees specific to this workplace. He has also taken part in Steward training.

In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf and road trips.
