Judy Tsao

Judy Tsao works as an Outreach Counsellor/Case Manager at the Queen West site of the Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre. Judy works with people who are homeless or under-housed, and started working at the centre in December of 2000. Judy has been a steward in her workplace since 2005 who is always advocating for members to ensure that workers are treated with fairness and that their voices are heard.

In 2002, Judy was instrumental in helping the then Queen West Community Health Centre unionize with UFCW Local 175. She has been on several negotiation teams, and took part in the harmonizing negotiation effort to merge the collective agreements of the two Health Centres.

Judy has attended many rallies and demonstrations in her time as a Union member. This includes rallies at Queen’s Park in Toronto where she, alongside her agency clients, colleagues, and also with UFCW staff, have protested cuts to health care. In June 2020, Judy was asked to present at a press conference representing UFCW with other unions, opposing the cap on workers’ wages.

In her spare time, Judy has gone to Bolivia to help build a school and a community health centre. Her human rights work has taken her to Palestine, Israel, Iraqi Kurdistan, and the border between Mexico and the U.S.
