Sara Vista long-term care home workers achieve gains in wages and language through HLDAA

An award dated February 28, 2024 provides the service worker members in Elmvale at Sara Vista Long Term Care Home a new two-year deal with improvements of:

  • September 1, 2021, general wage increase of 3.5%.
  • April 21, 2022 – incorporate the $3.00/hour PSW wage enhancement (instituted by the Provincial government) into the wage grid.
  • September 1, 2022 – general wage increase of 3.5%.

The above payments will be made retroactively to current and former employees.

The requirement to rotate shifts will be removed from the contract and the evening and night shift premium will be maintained. The previous language required members to rotate shifts in order to receive the shift premiums. This was an important gain for the membership.

Union negotiating committee: Pauline James, Sue Ritchie and Sheila Ryall. Union representative: Derek Jokhu.
