Retirement home workers in Ottawa secure wage increases and language improvements

The HOPE Sector members employed at the Waterford and Grand Retirement homes in Ottawa ratified a three-year agreement on June 15, 2023.

Members wages will increase as follows: All classifications will receive a 3% increase on November 1, 2022, 2023 and 2024. PSWs who have reached top rate will see increases over the three-year term of 13.5%. RPNs at top rate will receive wage increases of 18% over the three years. A weekend premium of $.15 will be introduced.

An RRSP contribution will be introduced based upon a match of the employee contribution up to 2% per year.

Other language improvements include:

  • A float day will be added November 2023.
  • The addition of a 4th and 5th week vacation entitlement.
  • Charting and reporting paid 15 minutes.
  • Gender Neutral language will be reflected throughout the agreement.
  • Language to provide the opportunity to dispute any new classification and wages.

Achievements were made in this difficult set of negotiations with the strength and unity of the negotiating committee.
