Recently, members at Remembrance Services secured a new three-year collective agreement.

The Union Negotiating Committee achieved important language providing enhanced severance in the event of closure of any part of the business. This language includes seniority rights’ protections as well. In addition, the parties agreed to new Joint Labour Management Committee meeting language too.

The agreement provides raises of 1.75% in year one, 2% in year two, and 2% in year three. Additionally, employees classified as Office Administrator, Service Persons, and Evening Service Person, will receive a wage adjustment of .75% per hour retroactive for hours worked since November 1, 2018.

Employer contributions to the workers’ dental plan increase by 3 cents per hour over the term of the contract. The shoe and clothing allowance improves to $300 per year, up from $250, as of ratification.

Language improvements address Staff Performance Awards, and provide enhanced bereavement leave of five days for the death of a sibling. Lastly, the contract now contains clear language ensuring the employer will provide paper hard copies of pay stubs.

The agreement, which covers 24 employees at two Remembrance Services locations in Toronto and Mississauga, was ratified on April 24, 2019.

Union Negotiating Committee: Matthew Barnard, Thomas Sherratt, and Union Rep John Di Falco.
