P & H Milling workers secure new deal

Members working at P&H Milling Group in Cambridge secured their new 3-year collective agreement at a ratification meeting on March 27, 2011. Members will benefit from the following improvements:
• Wages increase 2% in the first year, 2% in the second year and 2.5% in the final year of the agreement.
• Maintenance personnel who are required to carry a pager will now receive previously negotiated bonuses during holidays.
• Afternoon shift premiums increase to 65 cents per hour as of date of ratification and then to 70 cents in the second year of the contract. Night premiums increase to 75 cents in the first year then go up to 80 cents in the second year.
• Members working in the milling department who work a continental week will receive a premium of $1.20 in addition to any other applicable premium.
• Truck drivers will receive an increase of 10 cents per tonne.
• Life insurance increases to $50,000, up from $45,000 while major medical increases by $5,000 in each year of the agreement to provide $40,000.00 of coverage.
• Vision care goes up to $220 as of date of ratification and then increase to $240 in the second year, and $260 in the final year.
• Workers who are permanently laid off as a result of a partial or full mill closure due to the company establishing a new mill within 30 km of the Cambridge mill, will be offered the opportunity to transfer without loss of seniority.
• The company will now contribute $500 to the UFCW Training & Education Fund in each year of the Agreement, up from $250.00.
• Lab Technicians will receive a $2 per hour wage adjustment in addition to the general wage increases.
• Maintenance employees who successfully complete Buhler training related to maintenance in flour mills will also receive a $2 per hour wage increase.
