North Bay Humane Society employees achieve new contract
January 9, 2019
UFCW Local 175 members who work for the North Bay & District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals started the new year by achieving a new three-year collective agreement.
Wages improve across the board by:
- 2.75% in year one;
- 2.5% in year two, and;
- another 2.5% in the third year.
In addition to the general increase, part-time employees classified as Animal Control Officers (ACO) will receive an adjustment of 50 cents per hour across all steps in the wage grid.
Employer contributions to the workers’ RRSP plan will improve to 90 cents per hour worked. Previously, the contribution rate was 80 cents per hour. In addition, the employer will increase its payments toward the workers’ health and welfare plan: The rate will be $210 per month in year one, $215 per month in year two, and $225 per month in year three.
The Union negotiating committee bargained to have the limits on uniforms and safety footwear replacements removed. Now, Members can replace their uniforms and safety footwear as they reasonably need to without being out of pocket.
Thanks to Union Steward Darrell Schnakenberg for taking part on the negotiating committee along with Union Rep Derek Jokhu.
