New agreement ratified by members at Cavendish
April 1, 2019
A new collective agreement at Cavendish Appetizers was ratified by the members on March 23, 2019.
Members at Cavendish will benefit from a cost of living adjustment of 44 cents per hour added to their wage rates. Plant mechanics will see a total of 18% in raises over the term of the agreement, with 10% of that increase for those mechanics who choose to become a plant-wide mechanic. Tier 1 employees will receive rate increases and a lump sum of $800 in each year of the contract, including the first year. Tier 2 employees will receive a 2% raise in each year of the agreement term.
The Union Negotiating Committee achieved improvements to the employer’s contributions to the Canadian Commercial Workers Industry Pension Plan (CCWIPP) as well. There will no longer be a 48-hour cap on contributions. Instead, the employer will pay into the pension plan up to a maximum of 2,000 hours, for all hours worked, per employee.
Other improvements address coverage for physiotherapy and chiropractor care. The members will also see an increase to their boot allowance.
Significant items negotiated include new anti-harassment language, and improved and clarified job posting provisions. Other improvements include the addition of a sunset clause, dues language for part-time workers, plus improved grievance and probation language.
The contract covers 129 full-time employees at the Cavendish facility in Leamington.
