National Industries Embroidery members ratify new contract

Local 175 members at National Industries Embroidery (NIE) Plus in Wellandport met on April 21, 2017 to vote on a new collective agreement that will see them through the next four years.

The ratified contract includes an improved wage progression grid with an adjustment of $1.40 per hour for all rates. The grid also provides a guarantee that the lowest rate will always be at least 25 cents above the minimum wage set by the province. Members receive lump sum payments of $200 in the first year, an increase of 20 cents per hour in the second year, a $200 lump sum in the third year, and a rate increase of 20 cents per hour in the fourth year. In addition, members receive a $200 lump sum in the last year. Red-circled employees receive lump sums of $200 in each year.

A boot allowance has been added for the Screen Printer classification, and a new position – Sewing/Assembly Operator – has been added to the wage grid. The new agreement also recognizes the position of Graphic Designer as part of the bargaining unit.

A new RRSP matching plan has been introduced which will match employee contributions up to 2% of their annual wages. Bereavement leave improves to provide five days leave for the death of an immediate family members, up from the previous three days.

The employer will contribute $50 per year toward the UFCW Local 175 Training & Education Fund.
