On October 2, 2019, members at Metro Bayridge in Kingston achieved a new four-year agreement.

The Union Negotiating Committee worked hard to achieve a good agreement with improvements the members wanted to see. This included better scheduling language for full-time employees at Metro Bayridge. The new agreement provides full-timers a regular day off during the week when feasible. It also states that evening shifts shall be scheduled to 10 p.m., instead of 10:30 p.m.

Group 2 employees can be scheduled three evening shifts per week now only to a maximum of three weeks in a row. Every fourth week may only have a maximum of two evening shifts for those workers. Plus, Group 2 employees will also receive two-day weekend once every five weeks. This can be a Friday/Saturday, Saturday/Sunday, or Sunday/Monday combination.

All employees working between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. will receive the night shift premium now. And, lastly, full-time employees are now guaranteed an eight-hour shift when working a statutory holiday.

Wages improve to give full-time employees a raise of 25 cents per hour in each year of the four-year term. The first increase is retroactive for hours worked since March 1, 2019. Part-time employees benefit from higher end rates to ensure recognition for length of service with the employer. In other monetary improvements, the safety boot allowance increases to $125 per year for full time and $125 per two-year period for part-time. The previous amount covered was $100.
